My Thankful Thursday, The Mr !

Inspired by Jennie from Odd Socks and Lollipops I have decided to write a personally dedicated Thankful Thursday Post, to my well and truly brilliant husband...

So this is him (and me) an our wedding day, weve been together 14 years, and if I'm being honest with you that means that HE has put up with 14 years of

  • Crazy ideas
  • Regular PMT
  • Me stressing about EVERYTHING
  • Watching me start grand jobs of redecoration and rennovation, knowing he will be left to finish them
  • Terrible housekeeping
  • More tears than you can shake a stick at ( I cry easily)
  • My family (this is no mean feat for anyone we are a messed up bunch!)

He has dealt with everything our life has thrown at us with diplomacy and tact, fixing ay problem he can, he provides a good life for us, working many hours in our business and at university. He has supported every parenting decision I have made without batting an eye lid even when I declared I would be giving birth at home! He is kind and funny and handsome and smart and he is my absolute rock, my protector and provider. I love him unconditionally and he amazes me.

So this week I am very grateful for my man

Happy 1st Birthday Termite

This time last year you were making your way into the world, in the most amazing birthing experience I could have hoped for.
About 20 minutes old in this picture!
Its been pretty much the same since, you are an amazing and happy baby. So very typically a 'third child' in that you fit in perfectly. So long as you know daddy or I are close then you are happy. You have grown into a happy inquisitive little person and we hear 'whats this' all day long. We also hear how happy you are from everyone we meet, you are such a smiley girl.

I cant explain to you how you have impacted our lives, mostly because when I think about it my words get jumbled and it never sounds quite as it should! First of all you have completed our family, things feel just perfect with you around and your Sister and Brother love you so much. I feel like you have made me a better mother, as soppy and romantic as that sounds, you have had a relaxing effect on me. I no longer sweat the small stuff, and despite our massively hectic lives I feel more efficient than ever since becoming a Mum to 3! (some of the people I write for may disagree when they think about missed deadlines and work submitted with second to spare! Sorry to you folk if you are reading this)

In the past year I've heard a few comments quite regularly

  • You've got your hands full!
  • You'll not be having any more though?
  • Are you mad?
  • You're brave!
  • Will you have another?

Let me tell you, yes I have my hands full, but no more than a mum to 1 or 2, but my life is full as well, full of love, laughter and fun (with a boat load of mess to boot).

I would have another half a dozen babies if they all turned out like you and your siblings because you are a joy to be with.

And yes I'm crazy! Crazy about being a mum and I love every mad minute of it.

You have given me so much, the home birth I wanted, which by the way was so wonderful I just want to keep having more babies because of it! You have overcome lots of breast feeding barriers and you have fed longer than both your brother and sister. You make me proud every day, and your smile melts my heart and makes any stress seem insignificant, I can't believe how lucky I am, but I really cant believe how fast this year has flown and I could cry to think how quickly you have moved through babyhood, and whilst I look forward to the brilliant milestones we will meet together in this coming year, I will miss baby cuddles and the heavily dependant stage a lot.

Termite, to paraphrase a cheesy movie line. you complete us. Thankyou for a brilliant   year

Happy Birthday and Lots of Love from Mammy

The Magic Number

How do you know? Is there a feeling or do you have to be cold and calculating and figure out your finances? No I'm not talking about a new car or job I'm talking about babies!

I'm blessed, and I really feel do feel that way, with three beautiful healthy babies, sadly at 37 I'm also *cough* pushing forty (ssshhh). So my decision to have or not t have another needs to be soon.

Would four be too many, too much financial strain, would they lack attention? What about university costs and holidays and Christmases?  Would my poor patient loving hard working husband be put under too much pressure to provide financially and emotionally.

Or am I right to think that four has always been my ideal, that of course we will cope, we have a strong and happy marriage a big enough house and car. I love being a mum and I'm hoping I do an ok job?! Kids don't need to be lavished with expensive gifts and mine aren't, we shop pre loved and we buy bargains and in bulk to save money.

But then there's the health issues am I too old are we risking health problems for me and baby, if there where any disabilities or long term health problems would I be able to properly devote my time to all of the children, is it fair to take the risk?

There are so many questions to answer before we make our choice. What is your perfect number?

Happy Birthday To My 'Golden Child'

Happy 4th Bithday Son, it feels like no time at all since I was excitedly watching House on  TV  at 4am with Daddy timing my surges as you started your journey to meet us. You took a while but 25 hours later there you lay perfect in every way snuggled in my arms.

You are a kind and gentle boy and you bring me so much joy, spending afternoons with you, hugging on the sofa playing in the garden or tootling around fills my heart with happiness.

You give such lovely kisses and cuddles without being asked and you can cheer up my most miserable day. I love how you like to discover but you like to know daddy or I are close enough to touch while you are discovering. You make me laugh with your funny sayings and the natural comedy timing you seem to have. Using the quote 'that's a woman' from The Lorax at the perfect moment still makes Daddy and I laugh so hard we almost cry! Your 'crazy laugh' and ability to imitate a minion (ha ha bottom) could make even the toughest audience crack with laughter.

And your run cheers us up immensely Daddy claims you pedal your arms so fast it diverts the energy from your legs and you end up going nowhere fast.
You are in touch with your feminine side, which can only be a good thing as you are surrounded by girls. Just today you asked for your nails to be painted blue because Peanut was having hers pink!

Please don't ever lose your sensitivity and natural empathy for others, your nurturing and caring side has shone through in your baby sisters first year, showing concern for her (and my) tears trying to think of ways to make us feel better, being kind and helpful and also celebrating her achievements with absolutely no envy for the attention she gets when she does achieve something new. These traits will make you a good man when you are older and stand you in good stead for the career you choose, which I think will be medical but dad thinks will be more business based.

I look at your big sister and see hints of the woman she will become and I feel
No doubt she will choose someone to share her life and her dreams and this settles well with me, I look at you though and my heart aches that one day someone will become the keeper of your heart and it won't be mine anymore. No one warned me that this is part and parcel of mothering boys!

You fill my heart, make me laugh, brighten my days, you are a smart clever, kind, caring, funny, sensitive soul and I will miss the day when it's no longer cool to crawl Into mummy's bed for snuggles or to spend 15 minutes cuddled up talking about ' tell me what did we do today mammy' so for now my boy I'm going to absorb every ounce of affection from you. Thankyou for being such an amazing son I look forward and yet dread helping you transition into big school and seeing you blossom into the new discoveries of the learning that awaits.

I love you more than all the sweeties in the world my boy and all the sand on the beach!

Termites tales - 7 Months

Check me out, I'm 7 months I have two WHOLE teeth, and I can eat....A Lot!

This month I have been learning to roll with purpose and direction and I've mastered moving backwards! Mummy says I look like a demented caterpillar. Honestly sometimes shes just mean. I have found that the world can be quite frustrating just recently. I think this is because i have these ideas on what I want to do and where I want to go, but my body doesnt seem to work properly, I can't make it do the things that Peanut and The Golden Child seem to do, they make that talking noise and Mummy understands them, they can also move themselves about better than me.

Peanut makes me laugh a lot, Mummmy doesnt quite understand but I giggle everytime I see her she makes me so happy, and The Golden Child, well he will spend hours entertaining me just this week he hid in a box and pretended to be the dog from Room on The Broom over and over again whilst telling me the story, oh I laughed and laughed, then he jumped out too fast and he scared me so I cried, its ok though Mummy picked me up and The Golden Child gave me a lovely cuddle.

So Mummy has been letting me try lots and lots of new things  I've had Greek Salad, Chicken Fajita, Melon, spagetti Bolognese, Rice Salad and mummy's Coleslaw and it was all yummy.

It'll be my christening soon and I'm too wear a lovely old vintage gown that my great great great nana was Christened in!

Mummy says the things she has loved the most this month is our Baby hawk Mei Tei. It's on loan to us from Ak at Www.mybuggyjunction.co.uk and mummy loves it so much she's trying to save up to buy a new one. She has mastered the art of back carrying so she pops me on her back while she makes dinner and clears up or helps Peanut with homework and to be honest I'm normally so comfortable I fall asleep for a wee catnap giving me just enough energy to get through dinner then bath time and then I'm normally ready to go to bed!

Mummy has started to think I might have something called silent reflux and that's why I have been so uncomfortable on a night, she told Daddy that she can't believe they spent so long with the golden child having reflux and it never dawned on her that this could be my problem, so she is taking me to the doctors soon for a check up.

See you next month

2013 Round Up

As I sit here in my PJ's waiting to see if I stay awake to see midnight, with my children sleeping peacefully, my belly full of Chinese takeaway, I can reflect happily on a lovely year.

This year saw the arrival of our beautiful Termite, completing our family and best of all I achieved my dream of a home birth as she was born at home peacefully and happily.

Our peanut started reception and has blossomed and learned lots and lots including how to read which I'm puffed with pride to say she is really good at.

The Golden Child has started nursery and we've seen him grow in confidence developing friendships independent of his big sister, and turning into a real chatter box.

Personally I'm proud of my blog, it may not be huge yet but my followers are growing and I feel pleased to have been approached by some amazing companies to review their products.

I'm sure we must have been through some lows but all in all our 2013 has rocked and I hope we can continue through 2014 as happily as we have been. Happy New Year to you all. I hope all of your dreams come true.

Four Months!!! Where did that go?

Christmas Day saw my Termite become exactly 4 months! I can't believe it, the time has flown by. I know its cliche but I feel like I blinked and the last four months  has gone!

In the last four months my girl has learned to smile, grab, giggle, gurgle, chatter, roll and melt our hearts.

She has been instrumental in my learning some very important things..

  • Its not worth stressing the small stuff
  • The housework will still be there tomorrow
  • Baby cuddles pass too quickly and should be grabbed and savoured
  • It is possible to cook dinner, help with homework, load the dishwasher and breast feed all at the same time (not easy, but possible)
  • Relaxed mummy's = relaxed baby's
  • Three is really the perfect number (for us and for now anyway!)
I've also discovered some brilliant items in the last four months, we have loved and well used our snugglebundl despite not having a C-section I still found it helpful for moving Termite around,  Tots Bots Easy Fit  have become our nappy of choice. they are so easy to use and sooooo cute, and my Close Baby Carrier has been amazing, so helpful when you are busy and want to keep baby close.

I'm sure the next four months will whizz by too, in a flurry of baby massage, weaning, mummy groups, mamalates and splash and sing. I cant wait!
