Happy 8ty Birthday Peanut

Shall I start this post, like all the others, exclaiming my shock that you are another year older? Probably not because I'm sure you know how quickly time is passing for Mammy , how I wish I could slow time down to simply take each of your moments in a bit more!

Sod it... EIGHT you are 8 that's almost double digits! You are growing so very fast and into such a wonderful girl.

Looking through the photo's of this year something struck me, we have spent a lot of time in hospital or at the GP! What a year you have had with Tonsillitis and injuries and viruses, but we have stood (or lay under a duvet) together and this picture of you laying poorly and defeated on my knee will always make my heart ache with my desire to forever protect you and care for you and I hope I can always take away your hurt with a stroke of your head and a Mammy cuddle

We've been on lots of adventures this year, with trips in the Uk and abroad and as ever you have been a fabulous travelling companion and a source of many smiles and laughter

You are the kindest most sharing caring girl I know and I know that this school year has been a tough introduction to the awful 'mean girl' phenomenon. I know that it is hard to lead with kindness in these situations and believe me you inherited Mammy's sensitive nature, worry wart tendencies and reactive temper so I feel your pain when you are trying to rise above and #BeAQueen . But I'm proud as can be that you try every day to show the warmth in your heart and I promise it is true, If we lead with kindness others will follow, and those who don't, will find the path eventually.

Happy Birthday my wonderful, funny, creative, strong willed, stubborn as a mule (that there is definitely your Daddy's genes!) amazing caring, sharing, gorgeous girl. You will always be the teacher child, the one who helps Mammy learn and grow, I Love you more than sweeties and I promise I will always be sending you strength and hugs even when I'm not right by your side.

Showing your inherited love or organisation and clipboards!

38 things about being 38

So this week I had a birthday, I'm (mumbles) 38! Here are 38 things that are different to what I expected about my life 20 years ago, things that surprised me, life lessons, basically 38 random and probably rambling facts.

1- Those 'older' women I used to silently scoff at when I was in my 20s for shopping in John Lewis and driving a huge people carrier and living on a family estate... I'm now one of them

2- The mum I thought I'd be is no where near the hippy dippy mum I am!

3 - The body I hated when I was in my twenties, deserved much nicer thoughts than it got from me.

Look at that un-wrinkled clear complexioned face!!!

4- The soft, squishy, baby maker/feeder that is my body now, gets much kinder thoughts than I would have imagined I'd give it .

5- Spiders still make my skin crawl but they no longer make me cry with fear, who knew pushing a human out of my body would almost cure my arachnophobia

6- Carrot stains, permanently!

7- True friends are worth hanging on to even when life takes you down differing paths

8- cliche... Life is short

9- Trying to find a silver lining will always make things seem less bleak and will make Life feel easier

10- Life is full of crappy moments that you think will break you, most will just make you stronger

11 - A long walk in fresh air can help make the crappy things feel more sorted in your head and less crappy!

12 - Your heart will break, possibly more than once, you will lose people who mean the world to you, people will hurt you. no one can make your heart mend, sometimes it will and sometimes you just learn a different way of dealing with it.

13 - Life is full of goodness, sometime you just have to look

14 - You should never judge people by your standards, people see the world very differently and what's important to some may not be to others

15 - I cry easily, and sometimes it feels quite good to get it out

16 - Photos are important take lots look at lots and look after them

17 - Some people (me) cannot and will not ever be able to make Yorkshire puddings

18 - Granparents are a gift to be treasured.

19 - A tidy house is not always a happy house, some people are just poop at housework

20 - Travelling is good for the soul and everyone should travel to as many places as they possibly can.

21 - Tequila does in fact make you happy, and hungover but mostly happy!

22 - 21 is only true if you are not an alchoholic, in which case tequila will only bring you sadness.

23 - Experiences are more valuable than things

24 - Friends can be the family you never had/haven't got/don't want!

25 - If something is making you miserable, do everything you can to change it (see number 8)

26 - Bearing a grudge is like holding a heavy bag of misery, it will weigh you down more and more.

27 - Mexican food is always a winner

28- Chocolate really does make things feel better.

29 - I can worry about anything! I've always been a worrier but oh my days I can stress and overthink almost every situation!

30 - I love love! Love is good and kind and sweet and gentle, it comes without conditions or threats and it heals and uplifts and makes the world better

31 - People like to help, generally it makes people happy to help you, so it makes sense then to ask for help if you need to

32 - I am rubbish at asking for help!

33 - I am rubbish at explaining things that trouble me, I always feel like if I tell someone my problem/s I should then follow up with a solution and a chipper 'stiff upper lip' oh no it's all good I'm fine!

34 - a problem shared really is a problem halved

35 - If someone shares a problem with you, they don't necessarily want you to fix them, sometimes it's nice just to say these things aloud (see 34)

36 - making new friends is a lovely feeling, as is connecting with old friends

37 - I can't sing, and I no longer care!

38 - I have never camped, I always stood firm that I never would..., but secretly I'd quite like to!!!!

I did warn you it was random and rambling, what would you put on your list?

Happy Birthday To My 'Golden Child'

Happy 4th Bithday Son, it feels like no time at all since I was excitedly watching House on  TV  at 4am with Daddy timing my surges as you started your journey to meet us. You took a while but 25 hours later there you lay perfect in every way snuggled in my arms.

You are a kind and gentle boy and you bring me so much joy, spending afternoons with you, hugging on the sofa playing in the garden or tootling around fills my heart with happiness.

You give such lovely kisses and cuddles without being asked and you can cheer up my most miserable day. I love how you like to discover but you like to know daddy or I are close enough to touch while you are discovering. You make me laugh with your funny sayings and the natural comedy timing you seem to have. Using the quote 'that's a woman' from The Lorax at the perfect moment still makes Daddy and I laugh so hard we almost cry! Your 'crazy laugh' and ability to imitate a minion (ha ha bottom) could make even the toughest audience crack with laughter.

And your run cheers us up immensely Daddy claims you pedal your arms so fast it diverts the energy from your legs and you end up going nowhere fast.
You are in touch with your feminine side, which can only be a good thing as you are surrounded by girls. Just today you asked for your nails to be painted blue because Peanut was having hers pink!

Please don't ever lose your sensitivity and natural empathy for others, your nurturing and caring side has shone through in your baby sisters first year, showing concern for her (and my) tears trying to think of ways to make us feel better, being kind and helpful and also celebrating her achievements with absolutely no envy for the attention she gets when she does achieve something new. These traits will make you a good man when you are older and stand you in good stead for the career you choose, which I think will be medical but dad thinks will be more business based.

I look at your big sister and see hints of the woman she will become and I feel
No doubt she will choose someone to share her life and her dreams and this settles well with me, I look at you though and my heart aches that one day someone will become the keeper of your heart and it won't be mine anymore. No one warned me that this is part and parcel of mothering boys!

You fill my heart, make me laugh, brighten my days, you are a smart clever, kind, caring, funny, sensitive soul and I will miss the day when it's no longer cool to crawl Into mummy's bed for snuggles or to spend 15 minutes cuddled up talking about ' tell me what did we do today mammy' so for now my boy I'm going to absorb every ounce of affection from you. Thankyou for being such an amazing son I look forward and yet dread helping you transition into big school and seeing you blossom into the new discoveries of the learning that awaits.

I love you more than all the sweeties in the world my boy and all the sand on the beach!
