Happy 7th Birthday Golden Child

Oh my Golden Boy happy happy birthday, last year I wrote about how the years are going too quickly (as I do every year) and I feel like I wrote it only yesterday.

What a fun packed year we have had with so many activities and days out, holidays and adventures

You have remained the funny cheeky chap who wins hearts wherever we go and my boy you melt my heart whenever I look at you. You make me giggle with your perfect comic timing and your funny funny facial expressions, you can always make me feel good with one of your all encompassing hugs and I love how much you adore your sisters and Daddy

We've had a bumpy school year and there have been many tears from both of us and I know school can seem imposing but your bravery and strength have carried you through.

I still know that you could rule the world so long as you knew Daddy or I were right behind you, soon you won't need us giving you that security you will know you are capable of anything and then the world will be your lobster. For now I'm happy to hug you tighter and hold your hand whenever you need it, and I shall do that forever and for as long as you let me.

You are my crazy dude, my handsome kind, generous and empathatic boy always wanting to make people feel good and always with a strong sense of what is right and just, one day you will be changing this world for good (and to us of course you already do) fighting for what is right, or perhaps your love of problem solving, lego build and logic will set you down an engineers path like Daddy but whatever you do this world is better for having you in it. We love you more than all the grains of sand on the beach and all the salt in the sea

Don't ever change your gentle ways my little Golden Child

Happy 8ty Birthday Peanut

Shall I start this post, like all the others, exclaiming my shock that you are another year older? Probably not because I'm sure you know how quickly time is passing for Mammy , how I wish I could slow time down to simply take each of your moments in a bit more!

Sod it... EIGHT you are 8 that's almost double digits! You are growing so very fast and into such a wonderful girl.

Looking through the photo's of this year something struck me, we have spent a lot of time in hospital or at the GP! What a year you have had with Tonsillitis and injuries and viruses, but we have stood (or lay under a duvet) together and this picture of you laying poorly and defeated on my knee will always make my heart ache with my desire to forever protect you and care for you and I hope I can always take away your hurt with a stroke of your head and a Mammy cuddle

We've been on lots of adventures this year, with trips in the Uk and abroad and as ever you have been a fabulous travelling companion and a source of many smiles and laughter

You are the kindest most sharing caring girl I know and I know that this school year has been a tough introduction to the awful 'mean girl' phenomenon. I know that it is hard to lead with kindness in these situations and believe me you inherited Mammy's sensitive nature, worry wart tendencies and reactive temper so I feel your pain when you are trying to rise above and #BeAQueen . But I'm proud as can be that you try every day to show the warmth in your heart and I promise it is true, If we lead with kindness others will follow, and those who don't, will find the path eventually.

Happy Birthday my wonderful, funny, creative, strong willed, stubborn as a mule (that there is definitely your Daddy's genes!) amazing caring, sharing, gorgeous girl. You will always be the teacher child, the one who helps Mammy learn and grow, I Love you more than sweeties and I promise I will always be sending you strength and hugs even when I'm not right by your side.

Showing your inherited love or organisation and clipboards!

Happy Second Birthday Termite

Happy Birthday to my darling smallest girl, I can of course wax lyrical explainng how time has zoomed by and how if i think about it long enough I could cry at the speed with which you babyhood has passed by, how it feels like only 5 minutes since you were snuggled in my arms and I was feeling like I could take on the world having just had the homebirth I'd been dreaming of!

But thats al a bit obvious, all mums feel like those early days have zoomed (although thats not how we feel at 4am!) so let me tell you that you are a bright clever, kind girl, you share everything without being prompted, you have beautiful manners and the funny way you say Thankyou so it sounds like 'shankoo' makes me smile so much as does the way you say 'welcome' when someone says Thanks to you. I love how you count whenever anyone else does and how you learn so fast and converse so well. You girs certainly take after Mammy with your chatter box tendencies.

Most of all though you should know that you are amazing! You have taught me just as much about being a Mam as your brother and sister, so never think that being third is any less important than being first or second. I love that you are my hippy baby, hardly ever away from my side, breast fed past a year and mostly a visitor in our bed for the first 20 months of your life but the biggest revelation of all these things is that you are the happiest most content and independent 2 year old Ive know, obviously the complete lack of concern that I 'should be' training you to sleep, or teaching you to be independent  and my complete opposite actions  of those theorys has given you exactly what you need. The knowledge that we are here and you can go explore knowing we will be right behind you!

You are so lovely to your brother and sister and they in turn allow you much more leniency than I could have hoped for, sharing toys, finding out what you need and bringing it to you and taking great pleasure in being the one to make you giggle or smile.

Thankyou for two years of truly wonderful cuddles, funny moments, cat impressions and untold learning

We love you Termite you are the perfect completion of our happy family, Happy Birthday Smiler

Happy 5th Birthday to My Golden Child

As I'm writing this I'm sitting next to daddy reminiscing about how 5 years ago mummy was downstairs in the living room, drinking tea in the birth pool watching the world cup on TV (mummy's and Daddy's reminisce a lot around birthdays, it's soppy but you'll do it too I'm sure!) I swear I will never be able to hear a Vuvuzela again without thinking of the rush of excitement and anticipation I could feel knowing you were on your way to us.

I've just read the letter I wrote to you last year on your birthday and I can tell you that every amazing trait I spoke of last year, stands firm still. I love how you are still your baby sisters protector and you don't fight or shout when she tries to take over whatever you are playing with. You understand we need to teach her about sharing and patience and you are brilliant at finding a diversion for her attention.

I love too how you still are happy to follow your sisters lead in play and imagination but how instead of just doing what she says you are now as much of an idea generator as she is. You play so well with others and you are kind and giving.

Your teachers speak highly of you and your sweet nature, there's often talk of how you are a gentle boy. I can't lie to you though you are the driving force in my belief that some children would benefit greatly from a delayed start to primary school and respond positively to home schooling. This belief, I promise, does not just stem from how much I miss you still when you are at school. Not from the ache I feel whenever you say ' I don't want to go to school mammy, it's such a long time without you'. My belief is that some children develop and learn better when the lead thier own way and you my boy are one of those children. Don't get me wrong you have learned tremendous amount in reception and your reading and writing has become tremendous. But when we are outside discovering or playing or taking part in activities I see your brain ticking and the spark of excitement that shows when you've learned something new, I see your pride and passion at finding your way to new knowledge and I know that perhaps for you learning is a more organic and less structured journey.

I'm joyous that you still love to take my hand, sit on my lap of cuddle into me whenever there's a chance to, your hugs fill my heart with joy and you are a beautiful wise soul who can cheer even the hardest days, not just for me but for everyone who is blessed to know and love you.

You are my boy and I hope you always beleive firmly in the knowledge that you are amazing and brilliant and you always will be

Love from Mammy

Happy 1st Birthday Termite

This time last year you were making your way into the world, in the most amazing birthing experience I could have hoped for.
About 20 minutes old in this picture!
Its been pretty much the same since, you are an amazing and happy baby. So very typically a 'third child' in that you fit in perfectly. So long as you know daddy or I are close then you are happy. You have grown into a happy inquisitive little person and we hear 'whats this' all day long. We also hear how happy you are from everyone we meet, you are such a smiley girl.

I cant explain to you how you have impacted our lives, mostly because when I think about it my words get jumbled and it never sounds quite as it should! First of all you have completed our family, things feel just perfect with you around and your Sister and Brother love you so much. I feel like you have made me a better mother, as soppy and romantic as that sounds, you have had a relaxing effect on me. I no longer sweat the small stuff, and despite our massively hectic lives I feel more efficient than ever since becoming a Mum to 3! (some of the people I write for may disagree when they think about missed deadlines and work submitted with second to spare! Sorry to you folk if you are reading this)

In the past year I've heard a few comments quite regularly

  • You've got your hands full!
  • You'll not be having any more though?
  • Are you mad?
  • You're brave!
  • Will you have another?

Let me tell you, yes I have my hands full, but no more than a mum to 1 or 2, but my life is full as well, full of love, laughter and fun (with a boat load of mess to boot).

I would have another half a dozen babies if they all turned out like you and your siblings because you are a joy to be with.

And yes I'm crazy! Crazy about being a mum and I love every mad minute of it.

You have given me so much, the home birth I wanted, which by the way was so wonderful I just want to keep having more babies because of it! You have overcome lots of breast feeding barriers and you have fed longer than both your brother and sister. You make me proud every day, and your smile melts my heart and makes any stress seem insignificant, I can't believe how lucky I am, but I really cant believe how fast this year has flown and I could cry to think how quickly you have moved through babyhood, and whilst I look forward to the brilliant milestones we will meet together in this coming year, I will miss baby cuddles and the heavily dependant stage a lot.

Termite, to paraphrase a cheesy movie line. you complete us. Thankyou for a brilliant   year

Happy Birthday and Lots of Love from Mammy
