A brilliant free museum with something for all ages, current exhibitions include The Tube, Refashion and Terrific Turbines
Great North Museum
With Dinsoaurs, Romans, Ancient Egyption among lots of other interesting exhibits The Great North Museum is a great place to spend the afternoon and this Easter events include Explorer Day, Adventure Day and Collector Day
South Shields Museum
A great place to while away a couple of hours learning about the history of South Shields, combine your trip with a wander down ocean road to the beautiful parks and sea front. This Easter you can catch the Spineless Exhibition,make treasure chests or butterfly mobiles and even catch a sci fi fair.
Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens
Another brilliant free museum this time in Sunderland, this easter they are hosting a Dinosaur Egg Hunt, have a look at this post from Babyfoote to find out what she thought of The Winter Gardens
Saltwell Park
I forgot how much I love Saltwell park until I saw some snaps from Sam at North East family fun. Who very cleverly combined a visit to The Angel of The North (can you believe our Angel was 18 this year?!) Looking at her pictures reminded me that there is loads to discover and its really easy to get to, and well worth a visit for a free afternoon out
Marine Parks
The North and South Marine parksin South Shields make for a great family day our,boasting between them a boating lake, mini golf, play parks, meandering pathways, waterfalls, a minuature train and play parks galore, there are plenty of places to sit and relax in either of these parks and loads of great picnic spots or you could grab some lunch in Monchellas in the Park or at one of our many Fish and Chip places located just a short walk away.
Intu Eldon Square and Intu Metro Centre and Sponge Bob Square Pants
Spomge Bob will be at Intu Eldn Suare on 29 March and Intu Metro Centre on 5 April any families wishing to meet Sponge Bob can pick up free wristbands in advance from the Customer Service Desk near Debenhams at intu Eldon Square, from Saturday 19 March Here to Help Lounge in the lower Blue Mall at intu Metrocentre from 26 March
Jesmond Dene
A gorgeous ramblin park in Newcastle there is lots to do with play parks and a pets corner, a little happy train in the summer (extra cost) and loads of paths and walk ways to discover and even a stream for pooh sticks! A day in Jesmond Dne is a well spent opportuntiy for family fun, check out this post from North East Family Fun
Holy Island.
Holy Island to me is just a place of peace and tranquility, you can wander the coast, stroll through the little village, stop for lunch or buy local produce, Visit Lindisfarne and just be relxed. Please please check the tide times and last crossings as you will not be at all relaxed if you have to be winched from your car when it gets stuck on the causeway!
Bill Quay Farm We love a trip to Bill Quay, it has an amazing farm cafe selling local produce and there is tonnes of open space around and about to discover. I also once saw a baby lamb being born and it was the most lovely emotional thing ever. I love that its just a proper no fuss working farm, But don't take my work for it check out this vlog from Nomipalomy

Stick Man Trail at Kielder
We recently followed the Stick Man trail at Kielder on a rather snowy, rainy and muddy day but it really was lots of fun and only took about 75 minutes, thats with a slow 2 year old on foot. The scenery was stunning and we could have spent much longer playing along the way had it not been so wet. You can reward yourself with a cuppa in the cafe afterward (or the pub across the road looks awesome too) and best of all the trail is free.
Arbeia Roman Fort
Arbeia will re open its doors to the public again this year right in time fr Easter weekend. A veritable trove of archealogical finds and a great place to teach the little people a fantastic part of our local history. They will be opening at Easter on the 25 March with a chance for you to meet meet members of Cohors Quinta Gallorum, the auxiliary unit that garrisoned to the Fort in the third century, they will have weapons and armour on display and will be on hand to chat about history and what they do. Then on 2 April you can po along and get crafty, using the fort as your inspiration you might try painting, textile making or even pot painting
